JoAnn Carland

Carland Entrepreneurship Institute Director Emeritus

Dr. JoAnn Carland was a writer, entrepreneur, scholar and educator. She earned a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology with a concentration in Computer Systems from the University of Georgia, and an M.Ed. from Western Carolina University. Her writing career produced more than a dozen books and 200 articles, as well as five novels. In a 1997 article by Ratnatunga and Romano, she was noted as one of the most frequently cited authors in the world in leading entrepreneurship journals during the period 1975 through 1992. Using what she learned in the field, she had a great deal of success in entrepreneurship curriculum design. She designed and implemented the first Master of Entrepreneurship (ME) degree program in the U.S. and one of the first undergraduate majors in entrepreneurship. She was recognized by the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship in 2005 when it selected the ME program as the best in the Nation in that year.

Dr. Jim Carland holds a Ph.D. in Management Policy and Systems from the University of Georgia as well as an MBA from Western Carolina University and has held Certified Management Accountant (CMA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA) qualifications.

John Volpe, Ph.D.John Volpe, Ph.D.

Professor: Global Economics

Dr. John Volpe earned his B.S. and Ph.D degrees at New York University, where he received the Founders Day Award for outstanding academic achievement. He is Interim Dean of the School of Professional Studies at Trinity University in Washington, D.C., and a member of the faculties of both John Hopkins and George Washington Universities. He is also a Principal of a government relations and economic affairs consulting practice.

Professor: Strategic Planning & Management / Organizational Behavior

Dr. John Nebeck received his Ph.D. in Organizational Management from Capella University, and both his MBA in Marketing and Accounting and BS in Business Management from the University of Illinois. Dr. Nebeck's academic experience as an Associate Professor for Marketing and related management and economic courses at Viterbo University is well complemented by his professional experience as Regional Marketing Analyst, National Marketing Manager, General Manager, Group Brand Director, Senior Marketing Manager and Manager of Planning for such companies as Coors Brewing, Northland Cranberries, CPM Inc., G. Heileman, Amandem Vineyards, Heublein Inc and Ho-Chunk Nation Gaming. Dr. Nebeck has developed and conducted marketing campaigns and promotional activities for such companies as Coors Brewing, Pepsi Co., G. Heileman, the Chicago Cubs baseball team, Chicago Blackhawks hockey team, and Makita Power Tools. Dr. Nebeck is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Sam Walton Fellowship and Who's Who in Education.

Dr. William McPherson earned his Ph.D. in Business and Marketing Education from New York University, as well as his MA in Administration & Supervision and BA in Marketing from Montclair State University. In addition to teaching at Anaheim University, Dr. McPherson has taught business and technology courses at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Central Connecticut State University, Saint Peters College, and The Chubb Institute. As a consultant, Dr. McPherson has applied his expertise to Educational Testing Services (ETS), the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS), Proteus Scientific and Bozell McAdams, and his academic works have appeared in numerous business education journals.

Professor Steve Landry's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree from the US Military Academy at West Point, as well as MBA and PhD degrees from the University of Colorado. Dr. Landry holds the following US accounting and financial certifications: CPA (Certified Public Accountant), CMA (Certified Management Accountant), CFM (Certified Financial Manager), and CFP® (Certified Financial Planner™). Prior to academia, Dr. Landry worked in production and financial management for Procter & Gamble (P&G), Hewlett-Packard, and Ford Motor Company. In addition to teaching Managerial Accounting in the Anaheim University Akio Morita School of Business MBA program, Dr. Landry has 20 years university-level teaching experience, primarily at the MBA level, at institutions such as the Fisher Graduate School of International Business at the Monterey Institute of International Studies, the Naval Postgraduate School, the University of Alaska, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Hawaii, and the University of Colorado. With respect to research and consulting, Dr. Landry focuses primarily on financial management information systems development with the goal of assisting organizations in implementing strategic plans in order to achieve desired goals.

Holding a Ph.D. in East Asian Languages in Civilizations with a specialization in Japan from Harvard University, and an MBA specializing in Finance-Accounting from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Dr. Caryn Callahan is a former Vice President and International Equity Analyst for Merrill Lynch Japan as well as Financial Analyst for W.R. Grace & Co.. A professor of Anaheim University's Akio Morita School of Business, Dr. Callahan has also taught courses in Corporate Finance, International Business, Organizational Behavior, and Management at Chaminade University in Hawaii. Dr. Callahan was chosen as number one analyst for the Japanese consumer electronics industry by Euromoney magazine and has been quoted in the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Business Week, and Fortune magazine.
